So, I'm new here. What should I do?
Well, this question has a very wide range of answers. A 'cornucopia of answers' to paraphrase or what not. Now then, let's begin by saying that you should read the Rules and A Short, Sweet, and To The Point Guide to Role Playing. Both of these are located in the 'Essentials' subboard, which can be found in the 'Welcome to the Site!' board. After that, introduce yourself on the 'Hello and Goodbye' board or make a character!
You mean I have to make a character?
Yes, you have to make a character! Otherwise, how are you going to RP?! Don't tell me that you've made the character in your head! Sure, it works for you, but what about the people who can't read minds (this includes 99.99% of all people, including myself)? How are they going to know about your character? So, get your bum over to the 'Character Creation' board and read the Character Creation Rules and Form! Then, fill out that form and post it up! Don't forget to be descriptive!
Why do I have to include a sample post?
There are two reasons for this. One is because we need to see how 'skilled' you are at role playing. If there are many spelling/grammar errors, you will be told about this. If it is too short, you will be told about this. The second is that it is kind of like a sneak-peek at how your character will respond to situations.
I did that and I posted it up! Now what?
You must wait for a staff member to verify that that character, along with yourself, is fit to role play here! Once you see that a staff member has replied to the character thread with a note of acceptance and locked it, you may begin RPing!
My character didn't get accepted! Why not?
There can be many reasons for this. Usually, the reason will be explained in a post in the thread. Before ranting and whining at a staff member, ask yourself the following questions: Is it detailed? Did I include a semi-thorough history? Was my sample post [nearly] free of spelling/grammar errors? Is the sample post long enough? etc. If you truly think your character is 'perfectly acceptable' and that the given reason is 'wrong,' PM a staff member stating why you think this.
A staff member hasn't responded to my thread! What do I do?
PM one and ask them to look over your character, of course!
Why do you want us to be so 'detailed' and have correct spelling/grammar?
If you've ever role played with someone who has 1-2 sentence posts, you'll no why. It's not fun to role play with someone like that. Why? Because it just isn't! It's like reading a kid's book with a sentence a page–vague and just...blah. In my opinion, role playing is like a book being written by multiple authors. Therefore, it must have appeal, meaning it must be exciting and elaborate and descriptive. Not just "The cow jumped over the moon."
How can I be 'descriptive?'
Let's take a look at that sentence I just wrote: "The cow jumped over the moon." Wouldn't it be nice to know how the cow jumped over the moon? Or why? When posting, ask yourself the following questions: How, When, Why, Where, At What Time, Who, etc. Answer some of those questions in your post. It'll beef it up a bit and make it more interesting.
How can I use correct spelling/grammar?
Two words: spell checker. There is one located on the quick reply for you quick repliers, as well as on the main reply page thingamajig. Note that your post doesn't have to be PERFECT. Just readable. No one want's to read a post like this:
The boy wake dthrew the coridoor, his cloke bilowin out behin dhim.
Also, please refrain from using 'chat' or 'l33t' talk while role playing.
Can we be in more than one place at one time?
If you want to, then yes, you may. But if you don't want to, you don't have to. To keep confusion down, you may not want to and that's perfectly fine. I have no preference.
How do I post?
The reply button...KIDDING! Now, this is what I ask of you posts:
1. Third Person.
~Right Example: He walked through the streets.
~Wrong Example: I walked through the streets.
2. Past Tense.
~Right: He walked through the streets.
~Wrong: He walks through the streets.
3. Lengthiness.
4. Mostly correct grammar/spelling.
